Gym Surface Disinfectant Spray Development

Micron's gym surface spray project is developing a convenient spray around the real needs of fitness facilities and frequently touched equipment. It looks at how the product is applied, how it treats different materials and how it dries.

The challenge

Gyms contain metal equipment, coated parts, upholstery, plastics and rubber grips, and each can respond differently to cleaning and disinfecting products. A suitable product has to be judged on more than basic cleaning: application, surface compatibility, residue and drying all matter.

What the product has to do

• Apply conveniently to equipment surfaces.
• Suit the intended materials and finishes.
• Dry well, with acceptable residue.
• Fit routine cleaning procedures.
• Have its performance supported by appropriate testing.

Our R&D approach

We start by defining the surfaces, conditions of use and performance needed:

• Application assessment: the equipment and materials the product is for.
• Formulation: a formulation suited to the cleaning and hygiene needs.
• Surface compatibility: checking for visible residue, surface change or incompatibility.
• Performance validation: efficacy assessed with appropriate test methods and contact times.
• Packaging: spray delivery, usability and formulation-pack compatibility.
